What in the world have we been doing all week? Being awesome. Also, some other stuff. Scroll on down to check it out :)

What Am I doing?

Well, it’s our anniversary week, celebrating 4 years of awesome marriage to a wonderful gal. We’re doing a dinner tomorrow, and then hanging out on a day date all day Saturday. Before our first anniversary, we agreed to have one person plan the anniversary activities. We switch off every other year, and this year it’s Mrs. iHB’s turn. So…I have no idea what we’re doing, but I’m pretty excited. And since we don’t make enough to cover the bills, it’ll be an inexpensive, fun date :)

Car Accident Update:

So this car accident thing has been dragging a bit, but it’s finally getting resolved. When I took it in to the shop, I told them it might be totaled and they talked to me about a “Cash out” option. I’ll explain more details in an upcoming post, but basically I called the insurance company, they sent someone out to evaluate the car’s book value, and I will be getting a check instead of repairs. Since the car is drivable, this is perfect.

Ok, on to the good stuff:

  1. Congrats on the anniversary. We just had our “first” anniversary this year. I somehow talked my wife into getting married on 2/29/08. So this was the first year we got to have our anniversary on the actual date! Of course the deal I had to make was to take her out of the country every 4 years so we went on a cruise. I think I might suggest in the off years your plan of letting one person set up the date. I really like that!

    • That’s the coolest thing ever. I would love to have gotten married on Leap Day. And congrats on your “first” anniversary this year. Hopefully you have at least 10- 15 more ;)

  2. Thanks for the mention Jake. I don’t remember reading about a car accident. I’ll have to go back and look for it but it sounds like you are alright. Have a Happy Anniversary. I might talk to the wife and see if she wants to do what you guys do. Sounds fun and exciting not knowing what the celebration is.

    • It’s a surprise for at least one of us every year, which makes it more exciting for sure.

I don’t think I wrote much about the accident except for in last week’s wrap-up. But suffice to say, it’s the best kind of accident you can get in.

  4. Hmmmm… If your car is totaled, a few things may be going on.
    1) If your car is totaled, they will give you the book value, less any deductible, etc. However, if you retain the vehicle, they may also deduct a “salvage” value. Essentially, this is what the insurance company could sell your car to a junkyard for. If they don’t have the ability to sell the vehicle, they’ll give you less.
    2) If you retain the vehicle after it’s been declared a total loss, you may have trouble insuring it in the future. Additionally, when/if you ever sell it, you’ll have to declare it was a total loss, which will drop the value tremendously.
    3) Depending on your state, you may need to get a Salvage Title from the DMV.
    4) If you can fix it with the insurance check, great. But make sure the body shop/mechanic will certify that it will pass a state inspection. Some states are very strict and if a vehicle is a total loss, it won’t pass an inspection, regardless of repairs.

    Just my .02 cents.
