When To Take Your Car To A Mechanic

When To Take Your Car To A Mechanic

As you might know, I think new cars are the downfall of the middle class. If you didn't know, now you do. :) And I have written about how to buy a used car, and more recently, how to learn basic car maintenance to save you EVEN MORE MONEY over your lifetime. Today, I want to make sure that I don't sound like someone who is immune to car frustrations, issues, and problems that I cannot solve. I want to recognize that there are times when you SHOULD take your car to a reputable mechanic……and maybe even I should…. CHANGE YOUR FREAKING TIMING BELT! I've told everyone my tales of success with … [Read more...]

How To Save Money: Learn Basic Car Maintenance

How To Save Money: Learn Basic Car Maintenance

One of the things that has saved us thousands of dollars over the years is learning a little bit about how to work on cars. Basic car maintenance can cost hundreds of dollars at a mechanic shop, and cause you to waste thousands on labor for simple things you could be doing yourself. I have been doing car maintenance for about 7 years now, and here's some tips and trick on how to start learning about those money-hungry hunks of metal we call cars. Find A Friend When I first met Michelle, I was in the middle of my "Blow Through $100,000" tirade, and won her over with my good looks (HAH!) and … [Read more...]

Go Spend Your Money PLEASE!

Go Spend Your Money PLEASE!

I would say a majority of the pushback I get about budgeting is that it is a very limiting practice. I have also read elsewhere from those who do not enjoy budgets whatsoever (HOW?!) that budgeting brings in an element of guilt, causing failures to stick to the budget to bring shame and condemnation to the person who can't make it work. But I am here to tell you that doesn't need to happen, and you can still enjoy budgeting as much as a double scoop ice cream cone on a hot summer afternoon. Go Spend Some Money I am mandating this weekend a weekend to SPEND YOUR FREAKING MONEY! … [Read more...]

How I Avoided Wasting Money On A Bad Used Car

How I Avoided Wasting Money On A Bad Used Car

So, I may or may not have an opinion on buying new cars (see here, here and here). But what I haven't really admitted to is that I am a car enthusiast. Like, I love working on cars, researching cars, figuring out the details and figuring out how to make them better, faster, stronger! I am semi-obsessed with a few types of cars, namely the Toyota Supra MKIII Turbo, '06 - '07 Subaru WRX, and the Fifth Generation Honda Civic. Weird, I know. The main problem I have is that I can't afford any of these cars, while I'm getting out of debt and on a very tight budget. But yesterday I found something I … [Read more...]

How Much Money Did You “Blow” On Fireworks?

Today I'm reposting an oldie (but a goodie). We have an awesome 4th, and enjoyed family, friends, food and fireworks! And as someone who is always budget-conscious, the question I always wonder after every 4th is, "So, how much did you spend?!". This year, we spent $45 total. Let me know how much you spent in the comments below! We all know that the 4th of July (or, July 4th, as I like to call it) is a pyro's dream holiday, followed by New Year's Eve fireworks and birthday candles. And what's not to love. You get to blow stuff up legally, the grill is fired up all day, and you can finally … [Read more...]

“Millionaire Teacher” Informal Book Review

“Millionaire Teacher” Informal Book Review

HUGE thank you to Jordann from My Alternate Life for sending me this book. It has been an eye opener! Hey homies, what's up? Well, I have had a blast this past week picking up an analog book (you know, a REAL book) and reading through it. I haven't done that in a LONG while, possibly even over a year! And I probably wouldn't have done it with this one either, except that I set it on a shelf right next to my bedroom door so I had to stare at it every time that I left the room. Last Tuesday, I finally picked it up and decided to see what it was all about. And I'm glad I … [Read more...]
