Hey homies. Just wanted to throw up a fun announcement today. I mentioned it a few weeks back, but I am heading down to St. Louis in mid-October to go to the Financial Blogger’s Conference (or FinCon). It doesn’t really get any nerdier than that! A bunch of great financial bloggers are heading down for 4 days of fun and excitement, with some amazing speakers and awesome networking opportunities.
Yes, it will be nerdy, but it will also be awesomely motivating for newbie bloggers such as myself to learn from those who have done this for over a decade, and those who have built some rather large brands and are doing this as their full-time job. I’ve always had a dream of teaching personal finance 40+ hours a week, but most people that need the help can’t afford to pay someone. But if I was able to make it work in an online capacity, that would be amazing as well. Even if I don’t get there, I can at least learn how other’s made it a reality, and maybe I’ll get my butt into gear and make this blog something even more awesomely helpful for readers.
My goal here has always been to give you something useful for your life, something you can practically implement into your everyday life to improve your finances and enjoy life more! The first thing I did when starting this blog was put together my budgeting basics series, which in my opinion, is the BEST way to get your finances in order, giving you an awesome financial platform to jump off. Then, for those who wanted more detailed attention, I put together my Budget Friday series (which is a super lame name…don’t worry, changing it soon), giving one-on-one counsel, setting up a budget plan, and showing them how wicked sweet their financial future could be. I also try to find some conventional and unconventional ways to save money, and lately have been using the power of credit card rewards to teach others how to fund several vacations a year!
I’m hoping to go to the conference, get motivated, and have MUCH more fun in store for this blog. From all the testimonials I read about last year, this is one of the most fun conferences of the year, and one that MANY look forward to as their favorite trip of the year. I’m also excited to meet all my virtual friends in person, and actually talk to them in analog. Over the past year and a half, I’ve become part of an awesome online community, and am excited to make those friendships all the more real a few weeks from now. If you plan on heading to the conference, definitely let me know, as I’d love to share a meal and some conversation with all my financial nerds!
On my sidebar, you may have noticed a little trophy that says “vote here”. Thank you to all who voted for me, I really appreciate the it! I didn’t make it into the finals, but a TON of my blogging buddies did, and I’m excited to cheer them on and vote for my favorites. You can check out the finalists here.
There is still one award left for nomination, and I’d be honored if you deem me worthy of your vote. It’s the People’s Choice Award. Definitely vote for your favorite here, but if you happen to fancy this ol’ budgeting site here, you can throw me a vote by clicking HERE, or clicking on the trophy on my sidebar. Thank you for any votes, it means a lot, and I hope to continue to improve here and keep ya’ll coming back
And one last fun announcement. I’ll be presenting at this year’s FinCon Ignite, which is a fast-paced, 5 minute presentation with auto-switching powerpoint slides at a brewery. Should be a rowdy, good time for all. It’s Friday, October 18th at 8pm at the Morgan Street Brewery in St. Louis, so everyone make sure to add it to your schedule so you can come and mock me while I’m making a fool of myself on stage. Don’t forget your rotten tomatoes!
Comments: Anyone out there gunna be at FinCon? Anyone else as excited as I am to meet some of your digital friends in real life? Make sure to hit me up!
