My Thoughts On Financial Independence

My Thoughts On Financial Independence

I sucked with money. For a long time. I have blown through more money than most people have had pass through their hands in the past decade. Most everyone around me was terrible with money as well, giving me the impression that I was just being normal. But after picking up a Dave Ramsey book, I realized that normal = broke, and I was well on my way to staying broke forever. I finally learned a few things about how money works, how I should handle it, and how having a budget roadmap for every dollar of my income can change our financial legacy forever. I got extremely passionate about trying … [Read more...]

Cash Envelope System Review and Giveaway

Cash Envelope System Review and Giveaway

The following post is a review from the always wonderful Mrs. iHB (aka Michelle, aka wife) Melissa from A Time For Everything was super sweet and generous and sent me one of her beautiful cash envelope systems to try out, along with a coordinating change purse.  First of all, let me just say how freaking adorable these things are.  She has about 8 billion patterns and I basically wanted one of each.  Jake told me I couldn't have them all and would have to choose one…boo.  After much debate I settled on one and found an adorable pattern for a coordinating change purse.  She was super speedy in … [Read more...]

Budget Friday: Submission 12

Hey everyone! Welcome back to another episode of Budget Friday. This is seriously my favorite part about personal finance, the chance to help others get on a budget, get out of debt and reach their financial goals. I love showing the power of a well-thought out budget plan, and the long term results they can have. Today's budget is an anonymous submission. We'll call her Karen. Background: Karen reached out to me for some help getting out of debt and getting her family on track with their finances. She's married with kids and wants to eventually get into a home. Dave Ramsey Christmas Budget Application

Dave Ramsey Christmas Budget Application

Like any good personal finance blogger, I follow Dave Ramsey on my personal Facebook account. You know, same thing that normal people do. Usually I just browse the titles of most of this stuff, and don't really have time to read it. Today something caught my eye, most likely because it had the words "Christmas" and "Budget" in it. I decided to click on the link and check out what new shenanigans DR was up to this time. Lucky for me, it was something pretty awesome, and if I had a team of expensive developers behind me as well, I totally would have created this tool a LONG time … [Read more...]

My Current Reading Wish List

My Current Reading Wish List

I was going to have a budget up for everyone today, but it needs a bit more work.....and I got sucked into a good book. Now, I read lots of blogs and online content, but I am not much of an analog book reader (read: physical books). When I do read, I love motivational, financial and entrepreneurship oriented books. I guess I'm a bit of an idea guy, part-time dreamer and someone who is always looking for how to better help people. So I end up reading non-fiction books. They improve my life in so many ways and sometimes are the spark the lights an idea in my brain to make some significant, … [Read more...]
