When you get pregnant there are many things that run through your mind, SO many things to be excited for, nervous for and plan for.  I know I started planning the nursery immediately, and the first thing I did when I found out we were having a boy was buy him this onesie. (There are little socks with Harleys on them to go with it )  This thing was on clearance at BabyGap for like $12….and as a new mom so excited for her little BOY, that was no problem (better than the $30 onesie on the next rack over!)  It got me to thinking though, if I have to pay $12 every time my kid needs a onesie, I’m screwed.  Of course for my shower we got TONS of clothes (and I know from other showers I’ve been to that mothers of girls get even more!)  However, we worked … Continue reading →

I’ve talked a bit about having a good emergency fund, so it’s probably about time I define what an emergency fund is, and maybe more importantly, WHAT IT IS NOT. There are many people who have already defined this, but I want to get a little more detailed and answer the questions; Why, How Much, Where, and For What. Why? Why should you have a pile of cash that is used exclusively for emergencies? It’s a fair question, because after all, if money is just sitting there, it’s not out working hard for you. And though I believe all money should have a name so you can use it for something productive, this does not mean that you need this money to be active. Mrs. iHB: Saving Money in the Kitchen – Chicken

Hello Blogosphere!  Mrs. iHB here. This post is for the more domestically inclined among us (or not, it will save you money to learn some of the arts of domesticity!)  This kitchen tip has got to be the biggest money saving item in my food budget.  We only get $300 a month for food and I try to feed our family as wholey and organically as possible.  I believe that food is medicine and while it may cost a little more to eat this way, it is sure cheaper than cancer, heart disease, diabetes, etc! Anyway, here’s the tip:  Buy whole chickens on sale, cut them up, freeze the pieces, make stock from the carcass and organs, save $$$$.
