What Super Bowl 49 Should Teach You About Money

What Super Bowl 49 Should Teach You About Money

If you didn't know, I'm a Seattle native. I've lived in the area my whole life. And let's be honest, sports have mostly sucked around here. We had the great Mariners run of '95. I think the Sonics won some junk before I was born. And the Seahawks lost a Super Bowl a while back. But the last 2 years have been a bit crazy. The Seahawks have finally got this town going again and have put us back on nation's map as a sports town. Sure, most people hate us because we're arrogant or something, but it's been a fun run to be in back to back Super Bowls. But man that last play … [Read more...]

Life Updates

Hey everyone. Man, what a summer it's been, eh? (no, I'm not Canadian). I have been absent lately, and I apologize for that. There's been some major life changes and also, it's been sunny out in the Seattle area, which is an absolute rarity, so I have found it hard to sit inside and type away at a screen instead of enjoying playing baseball in the backyard with my son and crawling around in the grass with my baby girl. We have also been having fun adventures at "Gammies cabin" in a warmer part of the state, and have basically been enjoying every second we can milk out of this beautiful … [Read more...]

How Facebook Is Emptying Your Wallet

How Facebook Is Emptying Your Wallet

Facebook is no longer a fad. ("Really Jake? This is 2014. And you just figured this out?"). Yes. I'm a little slow. Sorry. But what I mean is that Facebook has replaced a lot of social norms that used to occur OUTSIDE OF THE INTERNET. Things like saying "hi" or "happy birthday" no longer involve going anywhere, or even picking up a phone. No, most social interaction these days involves Facebook. And I'm ok with that. But you need to be aware of how it affects you, and the world around you. Specifically, I want to talk about the financial implications of Facebook on your personal … [Read more...]

Personal Finance Rap Video

Personal Finance Rap Video

Yes. You read that right. My buddy Matt over at Listen Money Matters is talented. Not only does he have a wicked-cool site and podcast, but apparently he can rap. For more details on the sing, including lyrics and a "Making Of" video, check out THIS POST. … [Read more...]

You Can’t Take It With You

You Can’t Take It With You

Life has a way of cruisin' along just fine for a long while, and then completely overwhelming you all at once. It ebbs and flows like the tides of the ocean, but can hit you like a tidal wave without warning, destroying your reality and leaving you there to pick up the pieces. I lost two grandparents in the past month. Cancer Sucks Before Michelle and I even got married, we were already talking about baby names. In fact, we had already picked out our first daughter's name while we were dating. And it was no question that her middle name would be June. My grandma June was the sweetest, … [Read more...]
