“I Can’t Even Afford To Eat”

“I Can’t Even Afford To Eat”

I receive comments on my blog everyday. Some are happy, some are angry, and some just hit my heart like a ton of bricks. Today, I received one of those comments. A reader came across our story of how we survived on $14 an hour. In that post, we break down the exact budget we used to live on $14 an hour during our first year of marriage. It was a tight budget, but we made the most of it, and even saved a little money at the same time. Marie dropped by in the comments section to tell me her story. It weighed on my heart, so I wanted to post it here, and my response to her to try and … [Read more...]

Want To Get Out Of Debt? Start Here

Debt. Everyone seems to have it. It's almost a familiar friend at this point. Except it's the kind of friend who borrows your sweater and never gives it back. And then comes over and eats your leftovers without asking. And after borrowing your car for a week, returns it with a dent on the front bumper…AND DOESN'T EVEN MENTION IT! Yes, debt is a burden and a problem that nearly everyone has to deal with, but sometimes the hardest part of getting yourself out of debt is knowing where to get started. So I've put together a handy guide below to show you how to start your journey to get … [Read more...]

Why Are You Still In Debt?

Why Are You Still In Debt?

Debt. We all know it's not that great. Most people who have a budget have somewhere in their life goals to be "debt free". And I know some people who are making that a reality. But far too many still have debt hanging around like an ugly decoration on their wall, stinking up the entire feng shui of the place. My question is: WHY ARE YOU STILL IN DEBT? It's simple. Just let me know in the comments, or on my Facebook Page, or on my Twitter Page WHY you are still in debt. What is holding you back from paying it off? And how did you get there in the first place? I'll be posting the … [Read more...]

What If I Never Borrowed Money Ever?

What If I Never Borrowed Money Ever?

As I was getting ready for bed the other night, I was lamenting to my wife how tired I was, but how I wanted to write something epic for this here blog. I started a few posts, but couldn't bring myself to finish them because my heart was not in it. I wanted to write something to get people thinking, to get them to change the way they look at the world. But was I even capable of thinking outside the box? I was getting stuck in my own head, when my wife offered a suggestion. "What if we never borrowed money? Like, ever?" At first, the idea just kind of bounced off my head like a pass off a … [Read more...]

4 Crazy Ways to Earn Money to Pay Off Debt

4 Crazy Ways to Earn Money to Pay Off Debt

The following is a post from Kyle at The Penny Hoarder. Thanks Kyle for your help while I'm out helping people take money back from the government! Dave Ramsey advocates that people who are in debt sell everything around the house.  Sell so much stuff, he says, that the kids and dogs are afraid they will be next.  Take a no holds barred approach to making as much money as quickly as you can to pay off as much as you can. However, if you have quite a bit of debt, you may ruthlessly sell stuff around the house and still find yourself barely making a dent in your debt.  If so, there are still … [Read more...]

Our Debt Payoff Story

For those of you who have been here for a while (by a while, I mean, you've at least read 1/2 of my About page), then you know I'm into budgets. I'm also a big advocate of getting yourself out of debt. To me, debt is just a big hole that people can dig themselves into, whether it's by credit cards, student loans or buying a new car. And while you're in that hole, you can't really go anywhere worthwhile. Sure, you can save a ton of cash up or invest your money, but that's like taking a vacation on the south end of your giant hole. It may be a nicer view, but you're not really going anywhere. I … [Read more...]
